What is DPI?
DPI literally means dots per inch, and PPI means pixels per inch (they are synonymous).  These dots or pixels correspond with the way images are displayed on monitors, TVs, and anything printed (which includes digital photo prints).  In the context of scanning photos, slides, or negatives, the DPI dictates the level of quality of the scan.  The greater the DPI, the larger you can expand the image without pixelation and distortion.  To get an idea of what is right for you, keep reading.
What DPI should I choose on negatives, slides, and photos?
For photos:  300 DPI is generally sufficient for archival purposes, general viewing, or when creating DVD slideshows.  For specific printing purposes (such as reprints or enlargements), we highly recommend 600 DPI.  We urge 600 DPI on "smaller-than-standard" photos.
For slides/negatives:  Refer to the following diagram for specific information on our 1000-4000 DPI scans for 35mm media.  On digital camera terms, 1000 DPI essentially equals 1.17 megapixels; 2000 DPI = 4.7 megapixels; 3000 DPI = 11.8 megapixels; 4000 DPI = 20 megapixels.
Dimensions Megapixels File Size
1000 dpi 1300 x 900 1.17 1 MB
2000 dpi 2600 x 1800 4.68 3.5 MB
3000 dpi 4200 x 2800 11.76 15 MB
4000 dpi 5600 x 3700 20.7 28 MB
Expect good-quality reprints of up to 4x6 inches for 2000 DPI scans on 35mm film.  However, with digital standards rising almost continually, we recommend scanning 35mm film at 3000 DPI to ensure lasting quality and future practicality.
Where will my order be processed?
We do not outsource any of our work.
You may discover that similar companies in the industry have made a habit of outsourcing to Costa Rica, India, etc.  We feel that in-so-doing the safety of your priceless memories may be jeopardized.  Imagine the irony in ordering a memory-securing service only to have them damaged or lost in trans-oceanic transit.
How will my order be delivered?
For every order we deliver your scanned images in .JPG format on data CDs or DVDs.  A data DVD works just like a CD but can store many more images; i.e., DVD storage avoids the clutter of multiple CDs.  You must have a DVD-ROM in your computer to read these discs.  If you are ordering a DVD slideshow you will receive these discs in addition.
For video-to-DVD services, you will receive DVD(s) playable on DVD players supporting DVD-R discs.  If you arrange to instead receive the video in data format (.avi, .mpeg, etc) you will not receive a DVD-playable disc in addition.
How should I package and ship my items?
Package your items in a way that makes you feel comfortable delivering them.  We have never experienced problems with incoming shipments being damaged that were packaged tightly and neatly, with the use of bubble-wrap or other cushioning.
Many believe that the speed of delivery helps to ensure the safety of their order.  As such, FedEx Overnight or 2-Day services are among the most popular shipping devices.  We accept any form of incoming shipments; use what you feel most comfortable with.
Does my first CD or DVD come included with my order?
Yes, all of our pricing is structured to provide the first copy, no matter how many discs it takes, for free.  Please note that a CD is default for small orders where 1 CD is sufficient.  Any large orders (where files exceed 700 MB) will automatically be provided on a DVD, or multiple DVDs such as your order would require.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We have selected scanner models that are specific for each media type. These provide the the level of quality that we require to digitize even our own personal media. Top brands including Kodak, Nikon, Cannon, Sony, and etc. manufacture our equipment. Our 8mm film Digital Direct Method is a proprietary system that uses top quality 3CCD cameras, lenses, parts, and software.

Will you get fingerprints on my photos or negatives?
No, we use 100% cotton, non-abrasive gloves designed to protect your photos and negatives during handling.
What is your PayPal email address?
Payments@SecuringMemories.com.  Do not accept any PayPal invoice if from a different address.
What quality of CDs/DVDs do you use?
We heavily trust and primarily use Ritek RiData CDs and DVDs.
How soon will you reply to my email or Contact Form?
We are often able to reply right away or within a few hours.  However, please allow up to one business day for a response.
What is your policy on copyrighted media?
We abide by copyright law.
Please do not send media that is copyrighted.  If you send copyrighted material whether to be scanned, as a disc label, or for customizable features on our video-to-dvd service, please provide proof of permission to use them.
